The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mr Lam Sai-hung, led a delegation comprising members from the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board, the Marine Department, Invest Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council to visit Tokyo from 2 to 5 July 2024 to promote Hong Kong as an international maritime centre.

During the visit, the delegation met with a number of local enterprises and maritime industry organisations, including the Japan Ship Owners' Mutual Protection & Indemnity Association and Japanese Shipowners Association. They also met with the Japanese liner companies and local industry representatives to exchange views on the development of global maritime industry and encourage them to use Hong Kong as an outlet for their shipping business.

They also paid a courtesy call on the State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, Mr Kokuba Konosuke, to introduce Hong Kong’s latest maritime developments and explore business opportunities for further co-operation with the Japanese maritime community.

In addition, the delegation called on the Chinese Ambassador to Japan, Mr Wu Jianghao, to brief him on the latest developments of Hong Kong’s maritime industry.

Through the meetings and gatherings during the four-day visit, we have reinforced our relationship with the maritime sector in Japan and promoted our maritime and port industry and high value-added maritime services.
