Local Vessel Competency Enhancement Scheme (LVCES) (NEW)
Objective
To incentivize those already working in the local maritime sector to sit for Coxswain / Engine Operator Grade 2 Certificate examination(s) that are being conducted by the Marine Department (MD) to raise their professionalism and competency, and encourage them to acquire relevant qualification to operate the medium and large size of local vessels
Target
Residents of HKSAR who are the holder of Coxswain / Engine Operator Grade 3 Certificate, but not be in possession of any Coxswain / Engine Operator Grade 2 Certificate; or equivalent certificate before 1 April 2019
Specified examinations
Coxswain Grade 2 Certificate or Engine Operator Grade 2 Certificate examination (except local knowledge examination for coxswain certificate) conducted by MD on or after 1 April 2019
Level of subsidy
Each successful applicant can be received a one-off financial incentive of HK$12,000 after passing the examination and obtained the Coxswain / Engine Operator Grade 2 Certificate
Procedures for application
Applicants should submit their completed Application Form and documentary proof within four months after passing the examination and successfully obtaining the certificate in person to the Seafarer’s Certification Section (counter 14-15)
If the eligible applicants have obtained a Coxswain Grade 2 Certificate or an Engine Operator Grade 2 Certificate between the period from 1 April to 21 December 2019, they may make an application on or before 30 April 2020
