19 students of the Maritime Services Training Institute, the Institute of Vocational Education (Tsing Yi) and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University traveled to Dalian for 11 days from 6 August to 16 August 2018 to participate in the Yu Kun Training Programme, which was organised by the Hong Kong Seamen's Union (HKSU) in collaboration with the Dalian Maritime University (DMU) and funded by the Maritime and Aviation Training Fund (MATF).
Yu Kun is one of the seagoing training vessels owned by DMU. By taking part in the Yu Kun Training Programme, Hong Kong students received practical seafaring training and experience the life on board. Students also visited various maritime related training facilities in DMU.
To mark this important milestone on enhancing the training for local seafaring students and long term collaboration between HKSU and DMU, an opening cum agreement signing ceremony (Ceremony) was held in Dalian on 7 August 2018. Members from the Manpower Development Committee of the Hong Kong Maritime and Port Board (HKMPB) attended the Ceremony to witness the moment. Representatives from the Transport and Housing Bureau and Marine Department also presented to show support to the collaboration and encourage students to make good use of this valuable training opportunity.
